USDOT ERG2024 Requests

US Department of Transportation Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG2024) requests now being accepted in Virginia

The Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), published by the US Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, is provided free of charge every four years to police, fire, and other public emergency response organizations. This reference source provides emergency responders and managers with critical information on initial actions needed for a hazardous materials incident or incidents involving the criminal use of chemical, biological, radiological, or explosive materials. As such, it is one of the first resources used to safely manage an incident and provide for the immediate protection of life, property, and the environment.

The US Department of Transportation is in the final stages of printing the Emergency Response Guidebook and expects to complete the process in February 2024. As with previous distributions, the ERG2024 will be available in both electronic and printed formats. Distribution of the ERG2024 to the identified State Coordinators is expected to begin during late February/early March 2024. To ensure an adequate supply of guidebooks are delivered within the constraints of our allotted inventory, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management is asking authorized jurisdiction and agency representatives to complete an on-line request survey to document the jurisdiction’s or agency’s need. The short survey will help VDEM collect information for the distribution of these manuals. Jurisdiction and agency authorized representatives should consider all of the public safety resources within their organization when completing the survey. Surveys must be completed no later than 5:00pm, February 9, 2024.

Access to the survey can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HQD6RHZ

For non-public emergency organizations and private-sector organizations, the US Department of Transportation has provided a list of companies which provides Emergency Response Guidebooks for a reasonable cost. This list can be accessed at the following web address: https://www.phmsa.dot.gov/international-program/commercial-suppliers-list.

If you have any questions regarding the survey or distribution of the ERG2024, please contact your VDEM Regional Hazardous Materials Officer or the VDEM Technological Hazards Branch Chief at (804) 267-7600.
