Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills

OVERVIEW

The 2022 Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill is Thursday, October 20. Millions of people worldwide will participate at their workplace, school, or home.

At 10:20 a.m. (local time) on 10/20, you can join more than a million participants in Virginia practicing earthquake safety. Join us as we “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.” Drop down, take cover under a sturdy desk, table, or bench, or against an inside wall, and hold on. If you use a wheelchair or a rollator walker, “Lock, Cover, and Hold On.” Lock your wheels, cover your head and neck with your arms or a book, and hold on to your device with one hand, if possible.

You can register yourself or your organization, or update your registration information, at www.Shakeout.org/register.

While Shakeout organizers encourage you to participate with everyone on 10/20 at 10:20 a.m., you can register your Shakeout drill for any day of the year, and drill at a time of your choice. You can also include people in multiple locations through video conferencing.

Practicing earthquake safety in different situations each year is a good idea.
